McMenamins is renown for their saving and restoring old landmarks and turning them into restaurants, theatres, and hotels. The Edgefield was a county poor farm in its day with several buildings and huge grounds which are all lovingly restored. Located in Troutdale in the Columbia River Gorge, it's less than 1/2 an hour from downtown Portland and easy to find. There's plenty of parking on the grounds and several different buildings as well as outdoor locations to choose from in which to have a ceremony/reception. In addition, there is quality lodging here, so it's easy to have a place not only for dressing for the ceremony but also to put up out-of-town family and guests. Our best friends had both the ceremony and the reception, including a light buffet, in the Ballroom, the largest indoor venue. Their ceremony was during a rainy night so their family and guests didn't get the opportunity at that time to stroll the huge grounds which are beautifully kept. However, many of the guests did go over to the Power Station Pub, which is part of Edgefield, after the reception to continue their partying. We were told that many of their guests also visited Ruby's Spa, also part of the Edgefield and, earlier in the day before the rain started, had the opportunity to stroll around the grounds and admire the gardens. We were told by the enthusiastic couple that the staff of the Edgefield was extremely helpful. The food served during the reception was excellent.
