I want to start my review with complete transparency – not only was I a Seneca Park Zoo Bride, but I am a Seneca Park Zoo staff member. In other words, I got married where I work. Despite seeing this venue 5 days a week, being intimately familiar with nearly every space on campus, and having seen it decorated for nearly every type of event, I was still surprised and delighted when I walked in to see it for my wedding. We enjoyed beef short rib pierogis as appetizers and a BBQ buffet with pulled pork, mac and cheese, carved roast beef, and salt potatoes. When the pierogis started flying off the table (our guests were obsessed with these – people went up to the table for third servings and piling them on their plate like a main course) the catering staff was quick to replenish with spring rolls. We also enjoyed s’mores over a real fire pit that was set up right outside the pavilion. Selfishly, part of the reason I thought my workplace would be such a great wedding venue for me is because I wouldn’t have to work quite so hard to entertain my guests. I don’t enjoy being the center of attention so the idea of being “on” all night for a group of people was scary for me. I wanted something to do besides dance – my family isn’t really the dance party type, but being able to walk around at their own pace and enjoy animals would be perfect. When guests came back to eat cake everyone wanted to tell me what they saw and ask questions about the animals. It was amazing because I didn’t need to feel uncomfortable talking just about myself. I also want to note that if you have a family prone to feuding or have people that you absolutely must keep apart to keep the peace, there’s no better way to do it than to have 8 acres to spread them out. Overall it was an exceptional night. I would recommend the Zoo without hesitation to any bride who wants to do something a little different. I couldn’t have asked for more or better than the experience we had that night.
