The seeds go back to the late 1800's, Pittsville was known as the Strawberry Capitol of the Eastern Shore. All the fields from Berlin to Salisbury were strawberry fields. During the peak season, Pittsville would ship upwards of 40 boxcars full of these sweet delights to the major ports on the Chesapeake and throughout the Northeast. Chef Paul Suplee chose the restaurant name to honor the tradition and heritage of the Eastern Shore, Boxcar40 was born. Boxcar40 is rooted in the belief that we are only as good as our ingredients.
