A good businessman has to learn that when you come across something that is solid, maybe not spectacular, but genuinely solid, it should be appreciated. So it is with Phoenix Airport Marriott. The Marriott hotel chain for me has been hit or miss based on the individual hotel. It's not the decor or the rooms that is the variable, but the service. As it was I was sent to Phoenix for a presentation with a client who had contacted us, which is way easier than the usual way I have to pitch our company. As it was I was hoping for it to be a short trip as I was scheduled for vacation the day after the meeting and wanted to be able to enjoy my break, rather than have to get reimbursed a day for travelling. I arrived the day before and received solid, pleasant help from the desk. My room was clean and neat. The next morning I went down to the meeting room and checked on it to set up my presentation. Being used to the mobile AV equipment I almost always deal with, I was pleasantly surprised to find actual built-in equipment. It lends so much to the presentation for the room to look professional, and having built-in equipment just makes it look great(huge plus). The presentation lasted almost all morning and we got solidly well timed service on our water pitcher(it's nice when they actually check on you). The whole experience as I said was solid. It is a beautiful hotel and offers a lot of leisure for those who want and have time for it, but as it was I wanted to get out. I was checked out by 2 and caught a 5 o'clock flight home. I recommend it, not because it was an amazing hotel, but because it was exactly what I wanted and needed. In business, it is important to appreciate the lack of problems when you don't have to deal with them.
