I went to a talk at the Four Seasons last year as part of a continued career training program. At my age, those programs can be a bit of a joke, so I always try to pick ones that sound either entertaining or luxurious. This one happened to be both. The Four Seasons is one of the best hotels in Philadelphia, and hands-down my favorite. It oozes that modern luxury (deep carpets, marble tiling, and all of the conveniences you expect) that characterizes big northeastern cities. I admit that's why I chose it. The meeting spaces are functional (and can be glamorous, if that's what you want) but I came for the hot tub. For every hour I spent listening to some bore drone on about his economic predictions, I tried to spend another hour in the whirlpool. That's the way to do a conference! And besides the creature comforts of the hotel itself, you also have a fantastic location. I managed to sneak out one night and catch an Eagles game. Many thanks to the concierge who found me tickets on 2 hours notice! That's some top-notch service. But at the end of the day I was there for a conference, and on that front the Four Seasons leaves me nothing to complain about. The whole weekend was beautiful orchestrated, right down to personalized itineraries on formal letterhead waiting in our rooms. Some places just go that extra mile, and you can't help but appreciate it when they do.
