Situated just outside of Chicago, Oak Park gives home to the beautiful and dramatic Unity Temple. Built by Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 1900's, this structure is both striking and dramatic. For years this has been the church home for many progressive Chicago area couples. In fact Wright was chosen as the architect because at the time he was a member of their congregation. If you want to give your fundamentalist christian family members a reason not to attend your wedding, go Unitarian. We were lucky enough to be married here in the 80's and all of our guests were charmed by this very unorthodox temple. We chose to use a non Unitarian minister and in hindsight regret not allowing the church to handle our service. The church was of course very accommodating, and made up for our ministers unfamiliarity with the area. All in all we were very happy with the experience, and it surely has created memories that last a lifetime. If you are looking to make a statement with your choice of venue, choose Unity Temple in Oak Park.
