A wedding at The Ebell is like something out of a movie. In fact, many movies are filmed there and you may recognize the various rooms from different films. We rented the entire venue so there wouldn't be any other celebrations taking place at the same time. We were married outside in the beautiful courtyard in front of the antique fountain just at sunset. It was perfect. Our guests milled around for a bit and then had cocktail hour in a lovely room with french doors lining the wall. During this time I had access to an upstairs suite to relax a bit and change into a dress for the reception. The main reception was held in the front room. There is a very dramatic staircase that was really fun to make an entrance from when they announced my husband and I as a married couple. The Ebell has an on site catering staff that we were mostly pleased with. The food was incredible and presented beautifully. My only complaints were that they forgot to serve ice cream with our cake and also the kitchen staff helped themselves to some of my wedding cake and ate the food from the guests that didn't show up. The cake was $950 and I would have liked more than one piece. Also the per person price was quite expensive and I feel that the staff should have asked us if it was OK to eat. My advice is to have a great maid of honor ( something I didn't have) or a wedding planner that keeps an eye on things for you. After the event we had to negotiate a few costs down, like the forgotten ice cream. Despite this, I have to say my wedding was almost perfect and I couldn't imagine a more interesting and old world venue anywhere else in Los Angeles.
