Located on Alumni Walk across from Pettengill Hall. Built in 1890; currently 19,948 square feet This building was originally a chemistry laboratory before becoming a residence. This building also went through simultaneous renovations in 2010. When the building re-opened in the fall on 2011 it became the home for Environmental Studies, Department of Religious Studies and Department of Philosophy.

Pettengill is named in honor of the late Frederick B. “Pat” Pettengill, Bates class of 1931, and his wife, Ursula P. Pettengill. Pettengill Hall houses Bates’ Social Science Departments and related Interdisciplinary programs, and features expanded faculty office and department lounge space, multimediaand seminar classrooms, and Perry Atrium, an 8,000-square-foot three-story glass atrium overlooking Lake Andrews.
Pettengill has several classrooms ranging in sizes of 15 to 120 as well as two computer labs

Located on the Alumni Walk near Garcelon Field and New Commons. Built in 1895; currently 34,089 square feet. RB was originally built to educate Freewill Baptist ministers and later became a residence hall. In 2010 RB went through simultaneous renovations, which were completed in 2011. RB is now the home for Language Resources and Off-Campus Study, German, Russian and Asian studies, Spanish and French.
RB classrooms sizes range from 20 to 60.
