First, I am recommending this place as a meeting site, not as a hotel. On the business side, I have good experience, on a hotel side, not as much. I was asked to drive down to Kansas City for my 5th meeting with some of our financial partners. My boss who normally does this had some issues to deal with privately and was sending me, since I travel most, and the best communicator of our little group(of supervisor/professional staff). He had already booked a hotel and a meeting place in the Courtyard Kansas City Country Club Plaza( they really need to shorten up the name, I know). Having been to Kansas City nearly a dozen times for client proposals, I am well versed In Kansas city hotels and meeting venues. The hotel side was ok, I had problems with some alcoholic smelling people knocking on my door three or four times at 2-3AM for a neighbor across the hall, now I know that's not the hotel's fault, but it doesn't go well for an experience. They weren't loud or disruptive in a bad way, it's just the inconvenience of the thing. The service was good for a hotel, but mentally I can't get passed that. As far as the business side goes, I had an amazing experience, they had a coordinator on site, who was able to walk me through getting things hooked up for my presentation and wanted to make sure there were no incompatibility issues before the others arrived. That the guy was knowledgeable and available was huge. I can't tell you how often, you get portable AV equipment with a bug or compatibility problem and you have to either figure it out on your own or you have to worse yet, cut from your normal presentation. Thankfully, the guy was there, there were no issues, but knowing that he was there made it that much less stressful. The food was normal, the service was overall good. Another nice bonus, is that the lounge is more compact than normal, which for business is great. You don't have to half-yell to talk to people, the chairs are tighter together and more personal. The style and decor was fine, but it was communication friendly, not just aesthetic. Business is about function, with style, not the other way around. The meeting went well and I was glad that it happened there, because as my first time meeting the financial partners, I was glad to have the security of knowing the technical side of my meeting was going to work out. It just adds to confidence, which made this a great experience. I recommend the meeting rooms if only for the aid available. I can't say the hotel is bad, I just had a bad experience. If that hadn't happened, I think I would say I had a good experience there, but it's just when something like that happens, it's hard to separate. Hotel side Inconclusive (in fairness I can't rate it) Business side Excellent.
