Discover one of Columbus’ best-hidden secrets! Nestled in the heart of Uptown Columbus, between Broadway and First Avenue, the historic Rankin Building provides an unparalleled setting for special events, such as weddings, proms, corporate outings and more! Captivating lovers with its wrought iron balconies and historic French Quarter feel, the Rankin Garden and Atrium allows guests to step back in time and experience the allure of historic Columbus. The building we now occupy was once known as the Rankin Hotel, opening after being purchased by Scotsman James A. Rankin in 1864. The wood-structured building was rebuilt with brick after suffering a fire in 1878, and continued operating as a hotel for another hundred years until changing hands and eventually becoming the Rankin we know today. While walking the building, you can encounter history at every turn. The original cast iron marquee, marking the entrance to the old hotel, is still standing and prominent at our Broadway entrance. The Victorian details of the building, like the aged brick archways, serve as a window to the past and a doorway to present day beauty. Our largest event space, the Livery, once housed horse and carriage for hotel visitors, and later hosted the Springer Opera House Guild’s annual Governor’s Dinner in 1978. Noted actors and high profile guests to the late Rankin Hotel include: -Oscar Wilde (Irish Poet/Playwright known for “The Importance of Being Earnest”) -John L Sullivan (dubbed the “Boston Strong Boy”, Sullivan was recognized as the first heavyweight champion of gloved boxing) -Marie Dressler (Academy Award Winner for her performance in Min and Bill, 1930) -John Phillip Sousa (known for composing “The Stars and Stripes Forever”) -William Jennings Bryan (Member of the House of Representatives, ran for President three times on the Democratic ticket) The Rankin Square was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites and Places in 1977. Beautiful ""Old Timey"" Wedding Site - An Eventective User from Columbus, GA

I got married at The Rankin event center on Broadway in downtown Columbus, Georgia. The wedding was at the end of May 2007, and was the most magical day of my life. The Rankin has that ""old timey"" rustic-feel with the indoor brickwork and exposed beams. We did the ceremony in the Atrium which has the most beautiful covered walkway that the bridesmaids and myself walked up through, with a glass ceiling that is several stories up so that you get the feeling of being outdoors without the Georgia heat! We did our reception in the Courtyard, which was mostly shaded by stunning hundred-year old trees. We had about 150 guests and both the Atrium and Courtyard were the perfect size space for our guestlist. The office staff was also incredible. Weddings are very stressful times for brides, and they went above and beyond to keep it as relaxed and stress-free as possible. I was able to rent the chairs and tables right there at the facility, so I didn't have to worry with having them delivered and returned, and they even set all the chairs up for me based on a diagram that I drew for them. They did all of the confirmations with me the week before, which saved me the trouble of having to contact them. I was very reasonably priced, and they didn't charge us to come up the night before to do a quick rehearsal/walk-through. The Rankin in in some way affiliated with Columbus State University, which being an Columbus State alumni was just an added bonus for me, and would be for many other brides to have the opportunity to support our alma mater! Since my wedding, I have attended another wedding and a holiday party their, both of which were just as incredible as mine. I would HIGHLY recommend The Rankin for your wedding!! You will not be disappointed!!!
