In October 2010, we decided to have a party to celebrate a milestone event. Since our house is fairly small, and the weather was a bit too cool to have something in the backyard, we started looking at possible venues. We tried several area fire halls, but they all required us to use their caterers, rather than bringing in our own food, which would add significantly to the expense. Also most of them did not have an easy way for us to play music throughout the room. Then we came across The Screening Room in Amherst, NY. It's known mainly as a place to see independent and classic movies while sitting at a table enjoying food and drink. They also rent their space out for private meetings and events. They seemed to meet our needs perfectly: We could bring in our own food, although they did have catering options if desired. We did need to purchase any alcohol from them, but the prices were reasonable. We had use of their sound system, which we plugged into a laptop to keep music going. I was also able to use their screen to display a brief PowerPoint presentation (and use their microphone to narrate). Wireless internet access was also available throughout the room. The owner was on-hand for the whole evening to take care of any issues/questions. The bartender was pleasant and courteous. Although we used the venue for a party, it would also be great for corporate events, especially where the use of a large screen or a sound system is wanted. It is definitely a more unique venue than having a meeting at a hotel or banquet hall. I highly recommend them.
